Fitting the bed base to a French Corbeille Bed The adjustable bed base ideally sits on a structure similar to that shown below: Some Corbeille beds already have cross bars, or brackets to take cross bars. Many have a fixed cross bar on the footboard and an L-shaped metal bracket on either side at the headboard end of the bed, similar to this one: This L-shaped bracket will not hold the adjustable base. Your bed will need cross bars. Please view these separate links with details on how to install them yourself. It is a relatively easy task. Fitting the adjustable bed to French Corbeille beds Making cross bars for your antique French bed Once you have the cross bars in place Simple lay the base on top of them: The bed in the photos below is 140cm wide and takes a standard double mattress. Corbeille beds have a rounded footboard. As the bed base is not notched; it slides in and out, so doesn’t have to sit perfectly square. It can be stopped at one width at the top and a slightly different width at the bottom, thus fitting into the curvature of the footboard. On this bed the base sits aprox. 3.5cm in from the sides by the footboard and aprox. 2cm in from the sides at the headboard end. Because the base is not notched it may need securing. Although, if it is within the wooden sides and resting on the cross bars, there is nowhere for the base to go even if there is a little movement. If you do need to secure it, you can drill through the frame, or we can provide cable ties, free of charge. They work well, with ease, and can be hidden.
