Ancient Greek life size helmet from the city of Delphi, home of the famous Oracle of Apollo, dated 440 B.C. (find out more about Apollo…) It bears a griffin in its crest and an engraved owl on the right cheek, probably a dedication to the Delphic oracle, the most important oracle in the classical Greek world. Delphi became a major site for the worship of the god Apollo after he slew Python, a dragon who lived there and protected the navel of the Earth.
