The sword used by the hoplites (=soldiers), who formed the undefeated main phalanx of the Spartan army. The sword was an essential part of a Spartan warrior’s armament, complementing the longer spear (dory) that was the primary weapon used in battle. The xiphos was characterized by its leaf-shaped blade, which widened at the center before tapering to a sharp point. This design allowed for effective slashing and thrusting, making it versatile in close combat situations. Blade made of high carbon steel. (more on Spartan Art of War…) Excellent realistic feeling.
